It only lasted a few days: the city of Seraing shaken following the vandalism of a rainbow pedestrian crossing

The inhabitants of Seraing have a subject of discussion which they would have done well without. Indeed, a pedestrian crossing, recently painted in the colors of the rainbow in support of the LGBTQIA+ community, was vandalized, covered with a gray layer to hide its colors. A clear attack on this community, which continued later on social networks.

Indeed, it was the municipal councilor, Damien Robert (PTB), who had relayed the image on social networks. In the comments, he discovered the horror, with a shower of insults and homophobic remarks. “I was sad and surprised at the same time. We know, we see it on a daily basis, homosexuals often have to live their hidden homosexuality!”he regrets to our microphone.

In the streets, the inhabitants are disappointed. “It shocks me, like everyone else. It’s not normal!”tells us a local resident. “It’s really shit. Here, if you do something, here or in the square, we break everything!”, “We see a lot of things, but that’s really stupid, what they did “launch two other inhabitants, shocked to see this kind of things being said and done, on the basis of a simple pedestrian crossing.

On the side of the city, we denounce the facts, reaffirming its desire to continue its efforts, even if it means repainting the pedestrian crossing systematically. “We will do it once more as many times as necessary”immediately retorts Deborah Geradon, the Mayor of Seraing. “We will take all possible decisions to be able to denounce these remarks”. An investigation has been opened by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Liège. The perpetrators risk up to a year in prison and a fine of 1,000 euros.
