Taiwanese computer manufacturer Asus announced that the ROG Ally handheld console will be released on June 13th. The main version will be released in the US for $699 and in Europe for €799, while the less powerful version of the console will cost $599 or €699 in the US and Europe, respectively, and is scheduled for release in the third quarter of this year.
ROG Ally features an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU with up to 5.1GHz octa-core Zen 4 APU and powerful RDNA 3 integrated GPU up to 2.7GHz, along with 16GB of RAM. The console will have a 512GB SSD, as well as USB and DisplayPort slots, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and ROG XG Mobile for connecting an external graphics card. The portable console has more performance than the Steam Deck, but this comes with a shorter runtime: when running demanding games, the console will be discharged in less than two hours.
ROG Ally has a seven-inch display with a resolution of 1920×1080 and a screen refresh rate of 120Hz. The maximum brightness is 500 cd / m, the device has Windows 11 Home installed. For comparison: in Steam Deck, the maximum resolution is 1280×800, the screen refresh rate is 60 Hz, and the maximum brightness is 400 cd/m. Also, the dimensions of the ROG Ally make it much thinner than the console from Valve.
ROG Ally games can be streamed to your TV using the docking station. The console has two built-in fans for cooling, which, according to the developers, are less noisy than the Steam Deck. In the device, you can replace both the SSD drive and the joysticks.
ROG Ally was first presented April 1st, and users thought it was an April Fool’s joke. The company subsequently confirmed the development of the console and announced some of its technical data.
