The Swiss start-up ClearSpace will launch a mission in the first half of 2026 to remove space debris from its orbit.

Why is this important?

Humanity is increasingly active in space. But a side effect of this increased activity is that more and more space junk enters orbit. They can constitute a danger for satellites, but also for manned missions. There is currently no real solution to this problem.

In the news : Mardi, the company announced that the mission will be launched using a Vega-C rocket from the French company Arianespace.

  • During the ClearSpace-1 mission, a 112 kilogram rocket component, which has been orbiting the Earth since 2013, will be captured. Then the space junk will be drawn into Earth’s atmosphere where it will eventually burn up.
  • ClearSpace will use a probe equipped with four robotic arms to remove the waste. mid
