Roger Hecquet, 72, is a well-known and well-liked person in his small village of Wadicourt, in northern France. A peaceful hamlet whose calm was shaken this Wednesday by the death of the septuagenarian. “We heard screams. My mother went to see. Mr. Hecquet was arguing with his daughter, ”says a neighbor to our colleagues from Courrier-Picard.
The causes of the dispute are futile. “He wanted to sell wire mesh to people who were there, but his daughter said he had no right,” continues the witness. That’s when the argument escalated for the father of three who had been living alone since his wife was placed in an institution. After receiving several kicks, Roger collapses and does not get up.
“I didn’t see any shots. Since I just got my first aid certificate, I tried to give him a cardiac massage. Without success”, explains the neighbor.
A news item that shocks the whole village. “Leaving in such conditions is not good”. Alerted by the daughter of Roger Hecquet probably before the fatal outcome, the gendarmerie intervened on the scene, as well as the firefighters. The latter might only note the death of the septuagenarian. The soldiers arrested his daughter. She was taken into custody for “violence resulting in death without intention to give it”.
