Data from a survey carried out by Coupon Válido, with data from The World Bank and Statista, reveal that the number of cell phones has grown rapidly in recent years, placing Brazil in the 5th position in the global ranking among the 192 countries in the world.

According to the study, the country currently has around 118 million active smartphone users — the study considers an active user to be someone who uses the telephone at least once a month. This number is surpassed by Indonesia with 170 million, the United States (273 million), India (492 million) and, in first place, China with 953 million.

Despite occupying 5th place in the ranking that considers the number of active users, Brazil did not achieve a position in the category that evaluates the penetration of this technology in the population. In this case, when the number of devices corresponds to more than 70% of the number of people, the most advanced nation is in terms of digital equality.

In this ranking, the United States leads with 82% of the population owning a cell phone, followed by the United Kingdom (80%), France (79%), Germany (79%) and Italy (77%), showing that the countries of Europe are the most advanced in terms of penetration of cell phones in the population.
