Firefighting teams managed to quickly put out the fire following it caused columns of thick black smoke to billow.
A lorry transporting oxygen containers exploded on a Milan street, local officials said Thursday, injuring one person and setting fire to nearby cars and motorcycles.
Giuseppe Sala, the mayor of Milan, ruled out that the explosion was caused by a criminal act, and confirmed that the incident did not result in deaths.
Sala said the truck driver told the fire department that the fire started in his vehicle’s engine.
He added, “He quickly removed the oxygen containers he was carrying. He tried to limit the losses, but then the explosion occurred.” He indicated that the driver sustained minor injuries.
The firefighting teams were able to quickly put out the fire following it caused columns of thick black smoke to rise.
Witnesses said the fire appeared to have spread to a nearby building that had been evacuated. The authorities also evacuated a school in the vicinity of the incident.
