Gareth Bale’s agent has revealed why the Welshman handed Wrexham City a refusal. The attacker will not come out of retirement.
Bale “doesn’t want to play football anymore,” Jonathan Barnett explained Sky Sport adding: “He achieved everything he set out to achieve – he played at the highest level for Wales at the World Cup, which is what he really wanted and I think he knew his body mightn’t take it anymore. He had in had a tough time with his body over the past few years.”
The club of Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds are planning several transfers following promotion to the fourth English division. Bale was to become one of the new figureheads.
“Hey Gareth Bale. Let’s play golf. I’m not going to spend four hours trying to get you to come back for one last magical season, either,” McElhenney tweeted in late April. Bale replied – and said: “It depends on which course.”
Bale had himself fueled speculation regarding a move to the club from his native Wales following Wrexham’s promotion. In a video message, he said: “Hi Rob. I want to congratulate you on the promotion and all you are doing for Wrexham.”
Bale ended his career following the World Cup in Qatar and has since focused on his golf career. Most recently, he was under contract with Los Angeles in the MLS.
