The Organizing Committee of the “peaceful and citizen march” of the Forces Vives de Guinea took stock of the first day of the demonstration called this Wednesday, May 10, 2023. According to the organizers, seven (7) people lost their lives by balls.
“Over 56 arrests reported; 32 wounded by bullets including 13 serious cases identified; counter demonstrators armed with headlines and weapons of war supported by the FDS; punitive expedition and home inclusion operations in Sonfonia, Wanindara, Bomboli, Bantounka 1, Hamdallaye, Baillobayah, Transversale number 10 (T10) and other localities in the interior of the country; clashes between demonstrators and massively deployed security forces in the localities of Bambeto, Bailobayah. Bantounka 1”, can we read in this press release.
The organizations also claim that professional and socio-economic activities have been completely paralyzed. The Forces vives de Guinée also say they regret that the instruction was “given to the units deployed to transform” Greater Conakry and certain towns in the interior of the country, areas indicated for citizen mobilization, into a “field of war where the force of arms will impose its law, even if it means generalizing mass killings and the destruction of public and private property”.
For this first day of a continuous series of demonstrations, the localities of Ratoma, Dubreka, Coyah, Matoto, Dixinn, Matam, Mamou, Labé, Mali, Télimélé, Dalaba, Pita, Faranah, Kankan, Nzérékoré, Siguiri were concerned for this appeal of the Forces Vives of Guinea. Faced with the CNRD’s desire to govern at “the cost of death and blood, the FVG call on the Defense and Security Forces to dissociate themselves from the repressive plans of Colonel Mamadi Doumbouyah and his Government”.
The FVG say they invite the army, the police and the gendarmerie to assume their republican duty and to “refrain from responding to or joining in manifestly illegal orders or from being the murderous instrument of the CNRD. They also ask them to assume their responsibility before history by refusing to support tyranny”.
This is why the FVG promise to remain mobilized and determined to continue the fight for the defense of individual and collective freedoms, as well as for the consolidation of “our democracy. The FVG call on all citizens to continue peaceful and civic demonstrations this Thursday, May 11, 2023 (..) The FVG are convinced that the fight for freedom and justice will ultimately triumph, because many of us believe in these fundamental values and to be ready to fight”.
As a reminder, the living forces of Guinea demand the release of political detainees, judicial harassment, the return of political exiles, the opening of an inclusive dialogue under the meditation of ECOWAS, etc.
