Christian Acevedo, a gang leader in Queens (NYC), was found guilty of killing a rival to avenge the theft of rapper Shawny Binladen’s flashy gold chain.

On Monday Acevedo (28), leader “Wood City Gang” affiliate of “Bloods”, was found guilty by a jury of murder in aid of organized crime and through the use of a firearm following a three-week trial in the federal court of Brooklyn.

He now faces a sentence of mandatory life imprisonment. According to prosecutors Acevedo, known as “Essay,” opened fire on a car Dodge Charger parked in front of a bodega on Springfield Ave. at 140th Ave. in Laurelton on August 26, 2019, “by mistake” killing 21-year-old David Hutchinson, member of “Snow Gang”.

How foolish it was for Acevedo to cruelly take a human life to maintain and polish his status as the leader of a violent street gang whose members felt insulted by a jewelry heist.”

Acevedo and Hutchinson had been fighting each other for years, But that day’s bullets were intended for a different Snow Gang member in the car, Dontaye Goines, who earlier that day chased Shawny Binladen to a Queens music studio and stole his famous gold chain with the initials “YTB”.

The rapper, whose real name is Kayshawn Joseph, was second in command at “Wood City” and the face of the gang, according to prosecutors. “YTB” stands for “Yellow Tape Boyz”, another name for the gang.

Prosecutors contended that Acevedo, who before he was locked up from 2013 to 2018 convicted of grand theft, he needed to pull the trigger to keep his status as the leader of intact.

“How foolish it was for Acevedo to callously take a human life to maintain and polish his status as the leader of a violent street gang whose members were insulted by a jewelry theft,” US Attorney Breon Peace said Tuesday.
