The group announced on May 10 the establishment of its manufacturing plant on the Techn’Hom site near Belfort. One more piece in the hydrogen sector in northern Franche-Comté.

700 jobs in sight by 2030. The Inocel group chooses the Territory of Belfort to set up its 15,000 m2 “gigafactory” where a new fuel cell, a hydrogen cell, will be manufactured. . The site will be located in Cravanche not far from EDF and General Electric.

“The fuel cell is a cube which makes it possible to transform hydrogen, in the form of energy storage, into electricity. The cell will be used for stationary electrical needs, land or maritime mobility” summarizes Jules Billiet, CEO of Inocel interviewed by our journalist Emilien Diaz.

Inocel produces high power fuel cells. It is a French company established in France on two strategic sites, an R&D center in Grenoble, an innovation and technology hub since 2022, and a gigafactory which will therefore host a production line in Belfort capable of producing tens of thousands of units per year.

Explorer Mike Horn has invested 10 million euros with Mauro Ricci (ex-owner of Akka Technologies) to found the start-up Inocel.

“We managed to set up alongside the State and the Region, a pack to welcome companies and I think it works well. We have a single point of contact. We have academic and industrial wealth, an extremely industrialized labor pool that appeals to businesses, and we have everything it takes to accommodate them in turnkey buildings and an industrial ecosystem that allows businesses to find their account” believes Damien Belfort, mayor of Belfort and president of greater Belfort.

“The manufacture of high-power and high-performance fuel cells in our department will strengthen the hydrogen sector that departmental elected officials have supported since 2015. After the installation of the French group Mc PHY, the development of the company H2sys, and the construction of the hydrogen station for our buses, the arrival of the INOCEL Group in Belfort once once more marks Belfort’s leadership in hydrogen technology welcomed in a press release Florian Bouquet, president of the departmental council of the Territory of Belfort.

Mac PHY is to produce electrolysers in its new factory from 2024. 300 jobs at stake.

By 2030, the hydrogen sector might bring to the smallest department of France the creation of 1200 jobs in total.
