A rally is scheduled for Tuesday in front of the Ministry of Transport to call for a “cap” on flights. Issues raised: environmental and noise pollution.
It is on this Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 6:00 p.m., that two associations intend to protest in front of the Ministry of Transport once morest the nuisance caused by air traffic. Tuesday morning, Catherine Bouvier, administrator of one of these associations, explained on the antenna of franceinfo what was the expected reaction of the government.
Air pollution: an association calls for the example of the Netherlands
Flights have restarted at Paris airports, leading to the return of a problematic situation for both the environment and local residents. Ms. Bouvier called for France to follow the example of the Netherlands, which has already announced the forthcoming ban on night flights and private jets. The goal: a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution. Paris is therefore invited to also “cap” the number of flights.
1.4 million Ile-de-France residents exposed to excessive noise
According to the administrator of the association, he “no longer tenable” for 1.4 million Ile-de-France residents to be exposed to noise disturbances such that they exceed the values established by the WHO (World Health Organization). Catherine Bouvier added that for people living under the air corridors of Roissy, it is three years of their life that they lose in this way, excluding other illnesses.
Advanced solutions
Several solutions are proposed by the associations, including that of the so-called “gentle descent” technique. Because not only allowing flights to be less noisy for local residents, but also saving kerosene. A measure which was to be put in place next December, before being postponed. And the administrator for appearing disappointed by this decision, when this solution has been on the table for regarding a decade.
