Poco X5 bets on performance, good autonomy and fast battery charging | Analysis / Review

The Poco X5 is yet another mid-range cell phone bet by Xiaomi for those looking for a cost-effective device that meets their main needs and delivers the right combination of performance, battery and cameras. Is it as good as its Pro variant?

The traditional X5 has a design similar to the X5 Pro, but it is less refined to make it clear that we are holding a cheaper cell phone. Still, it is a product with good build quality that maintains the Poco identity as seen in previous generations. It has complete connectivity and has an efficient biometric reader on its side.

The 6.67-inch screen has a 120 Hz AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution. The level of brightness is good, being above others in the segment, but it does not support HDR or Dolby Vision like the more expensive version. The sound part is what disappoints for being mono. Maximum power is good, but the highs get more and more shrill as you turn up the volume.

This is another intermediary from Xiaomi with Snapdragon 695, the same chip present in the Poco X4 Pro. Despite being a bit old hardware, it still handles well with any recent Android app and performed well in our multitasking focused speed test. The Poco X5 also does well even in the most demanding games without overheating.

The 5,000 mAh battery is one of the highlights of the Chinese intermediate and reached more than 31 hours in our standardized test focused on moderate use with some games. The recharge time is also pleasing to be more agile than rivals and take just over 1 hour to have your battery completely full.

The photographic set consists of a 48 MP camera, an 8 MP ultra-wide camera and a 2 MP macro camera. This is the point where the X5 falls far short of the Pro version by presenting rather limited photographic performance. Even in well-lit places it is possible to notice excessive noise in the photos, at least the night mode helps a lot in very dark places. The front one is the best of the set and makes good selfies, while the camcorder only records in Full HD and doesn’t have advanced stabilization.

Is it worth buying the Poco X5 or is it better to invest in the Poco X5 Pro? Check out our full review via the link below and see everything it has to offer.
