Vienna (OTS) – The GEDENKDIENST association is shocked by the allegations once morest the chairman of the Austrian Foreign Service Association, which were published this evening in the weekly newspaper Falter and discussed in Zeit im Bild. More than 14 statements from people associated with the Austrian Foreign Service Association paint a devastating picture. There are two supporting organizations that offer a memorial service abroad. These are two different and independently acting organizations that differ significantly in their structures. The GEDENKDIENST association condemns in the strongest possible terms the actions that were described today in Falter and Zeit im Bild and distances itself from them with vehemence. As early as 1997, Andreas Maislinger was voted out and expelled from the General Assembly of the GEDENKDIENST association.
“Young, motivated people who want to do a memorial service must be supported and encouraged, not threatened or intimidated”
, demands the deputy chairwoman of the GEDENKDIENST association, Marie Lang. Memorial service is an important part of Austria’s remembrance policy. The chairman of the GEDENKDIENST association, Nadine Dimmel, emphasizes: “Offering a memorial service abroad as an association also means that you have a responsibility towards your own memorial service providers.”

Things that should be taken for granted – physical and psychological security as well as support for young people and young adults who want to do a memorial service – are apparently not guaranteed in the Austrian Foreign Service Association. The grievances that have been pointed out must be dealt with and the necessary consequences drawn.
