“At my 70 years I no longer want to live these acts of violence”said Miriam Saigg, the former Secretary of Social Development of the Nation, overwhelmed following the end of the first day of the trial that follows him Claudia Reyes, Zulma Dávila, Romeo Aguiar and Miguel Báez -former head of ODEL and currently under house arrest- for unlawful deprivation of liberty, in a series of events that occurred in 2019.

Saigg was one of the main witnesses provided by the Public Prosecutor’s Office -represented by Rafael Vehils Ruiz and Juan García Barrese– and during his presentation he provided details of the “sufferings” he suffered while he was in charge of the organization.

At the hearing, he recognized the four defendants who would have organized the operation in front of his home located on Calle Isidro Lobo casi Mendoza, in the area known as the “canalito”. “They looked like a pack,” Saigg said at one point when referring to the modality used by the trade unionists to carry out the protest that also included the burning of roofs.
Another of the witnesses who passed in front of the one-person judge Alejandro Silva was the lawyer Nicolás Suárez Collman who provided details of the activities carried out by the defendants and told how the protest day was at Saigg’s house. He also confirmed that it was the four of them who led the mobilization and the claim.
So much Claudia Reyes, Zulma Dávila, Romeo Aguiar and Miguel Báez They did not testify on the first day but their defense attorney Diego Broggini assured that they will do so during the process on May 18 and 19.
The four referents are charged with the crime of “illegitimate deprivation of liberty through threats”, which according to the Penal Codeprovides for a penalty ranging from 2 to 6 years in prison.
