“Expatriates Arrested and Deported in Kuwait, Bahrain Considers Stopping Tourist Visa to Work Permit Conversions”

Kuwait City: After a video of a few expatriates clashing on the roadside went viral, the authorities took strict action in the incident. Officials said that the people seen in the video have been arrested by the Public Security Sector officials. The process to deport them from Kuwait is in progress. For this, those arrested have been handed over to the concerned government departments. But the authorities have not released any other detailed information, including the nationalities of those arrested.

It is recommended that the conversion of tourist visas to work visas be stopped altogether
Manama: It is recommended that conversion of tourist visas into work permits be completely stopped in Bahrain. The recommendation in this regard has been put forward by the Parliamentary Committee which monitors the functioning of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority in the country. The committee wants the law to be implemented as soon as possible.

The main demand is to examine the legality of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority’s action in granting work permits to tourists entering the country. The demand was raised in a parliamentary committee meeting chaired by Member of Parliament Mahmoud Al Saleh. Labor Market Regulatory Authority Chairman Jameel Humaidan, Board Members, Chief Executive Nauf Jamsheer and others participated in this meeting. Official figures show that in 2022 alone, 46,204 tourists converted their visas to work visas in Bahrain. According to the figures till February this year, 7878 foreigners have obtained such work visas.
