The case of a 35-year-old Polish small truck driver who was discovered dead on a Tyrolean motorway parking lot on Sunday morning has apparently been largely resolved. The suspected 36-year-old compatriot, also a truck driver, confessed to the crime. The two got into an argument while intoxicated. The suspect said he was first hit by the victim and then defended himself by stabbing the 35-year-old several times with a knife.

Both the victim and the suspect then went to the Zirl-Inzing motorway car park (Innsbruck-Land district) in their vehicles, with the 35-year-old finally dying as a result of the injuries, the Tyrolean State Criminal Police Office announced on Tuesday. The dispute or the fact came shortly following midnight, according to the LKA, it was not possible to say how long the victim lived. During his interrogation on Monday evening, the accused stated that he then fell asleep. On Sunday morning, the man was finally discovered with blood-smeared clothing. The victim was found in his car by emergency services with the vehicle door open. There is said to have been blood on the door and on the floor.

In any case, the descriptions of the urgent suspect would also agree with the result of the autopsy, it said. The victim had stab wounds to his upper body.

The exact reason for the dispute was initially unclear. This was due to the heavy alcohol consumption for some incomprehensible reason, the 36-year-old said he might not remember it, said LKA director Katja Tersch to the APA. The two Poles had known each other and apparently agreed to meet in the parking lot.

However, according to the investigators, the murder weapon was also found during a further search of the crime scene. It was a folding knife. The 36-year-old Pole was admitted to the Innsbruck prison on Monday evening by order of the public prosecutor.
