Mayor of Belgorod Valentin Demidov postponed Victory Day celebrations from May 9 for an indefinite period. He explained the decision by the shelling of the border areas of the Belgorod region. The authorities will limit themselves to laying flowers at the monuments of the Great Patriotic War and congratulating the veterans.

“We see what events have been taking place in the border areas in recent days. I’m sure you will agree with me – it’s not worth the risk, ”wrote Mr. Demidov “In contact with”. He promised to hold all festive events “when the situation permits.”

In April, the Belgorod region decided to abandon traditional parades in 2023 for security reasons. However, it was planned to hold concerts, rallies, exhibitions, master classes and other events in Belgorod. On May 8, Valuysky, Graivoronsky and Shebekinsky urban districts were shelled, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported. Five people received minor injuries.

After the drone attack on the Kremlin, the number of regions that canceled parades has increased. They will not be held in almost all regions of the Central Federal District to the south and southwest of Moscow, as well as in some others – the Pskov, Saratov and Tyumen regions. A parade is expected to be held in Moscow, President Vladimir Putin is to speak at it, and leaders of other countries are planned to participate.
