MONTE CARLO, Monaco – A Nissan Formula E Team demonstrated excellent pace at the Monaco E-Prix. The team’s two drivers, Sacha Fenestraz and Norman Nato, started in the top 3 on the grid and Fenestraz finished 4th, taking home strong points.

Norman Nato, whose new helmet design pays homage to rider Jules Bianchi, led qualifying Group A. Fenestraz finished close behind in second. After emerging victorious from their quarter-final duel, the duo faced off in an all-Nissan semi-final, with Fenestraz advancing.

The French-Argentine driver initially took pole position with another spectacular lap, but later had his time reduced due to excessive use of power. Jake Hughes took pole position for the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team and Frenchman Nato in third, allowing Nissan to make its presence felt with its two cars in the top 3 on the grid.

After a chaotic start, Fenestraz battled for the podium with the championship leaders, while Nato fought for a position worth points. Fenestraz finished fourth and took home 12 points, but Nato was involved in an incident and dropped back in the pack.

Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship resumes early next month. This time, the category heads to Jakarta, Indonesia, for a double round on June 3rd and 4th.

Tommaso Volpe, General Manager and Head of the Nissan Formula E Team:
“We’ve made more updates to the car for this round and it’s really nice to see that they’ve had a positive impact on our pace. Starting with both cars in the top 3 of the grid was incredible and serves as a great motivation for us. Sacha had an excellent race, staying among the leaders of the race throughout the race, and is now taking home valuable points. Norman was unlucky in terms of strategy and then got involved in contact, but we’re still satisfied with our overall performance. We will work to keep improving our race pace and it’s wonderful to see the team hungry for a win.”

Sacha Fenestraz:
“The weekend was pretty positive overall, with a fantastic qualifying session. The pole may not have been officially ours, but I see it as ours, as we set the fastest lap and only lost the position due to an excess of power. Even so, it was really cool to start at the front of the grid. Our strategy might have been a bit better, but we are happy with our pace and that we are back fighting at the front of the field. We managed to score some nice points today, the team is working really hard and we’ll keep pushing as the season continues.”

Norman Nato:
“I took advantage of my experience in Monaco in qualifying and it was amazing to lead the group and advance to Duels. I hadn’t done a 350kW lap in practice so it was interesting and quite fun as an experience. Sacha did a fantastic job in the semifinal and we managed to finish 3rd, in addition to starting with both cars at the front of the grid. During the race, we lost a few positions during the Attack Mode phase and then got stuck in the middle of the pack, which made it difficult to advance further. Then I had some damage to the car and that ended our hope of finishing in the top 10, but we showed a lot of potential this weekend and we are feeling motivated for the next few rounds.”
