Agadir now has direct connections with towns in Scandinavian countries. The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has just concluded a historic agreement with the airline company Scandinavian Airlines (SAS).
The agreement signed in Stockholm between Adel El Fakir, CEO ofONMT and Erik Westman, Vice President of Network Management and Commercial Director of SAS, plans the launch by Scandinavian Airlines of weekly direct flights linking Agadir to the cities of Stockholm in Sweden and Copenhagen in Denmark, indicates the ONMT in a press release.

The agreement which will enter into force in November 2023 is unprecedented. Scandinavian Airlines will indeed, for the first time, make scheduled flights to Morocco. “The largest airline in Northern Europe will serve Morocco. This is a big step in our exploration of new growth markets. This strategic partnership will also allow us to secure seats and tourist flows, but also to guarantee a good winter season for the Agadir seaside resort,” said El Fakir, quoted in the press release.
With 130 aircraft, Scandinavian Airlines is the leading air carrier in the Nordic countries and also a founding member of Star Alliance, the largest airline alliance in the world. The company has two main hubs, at Arlanda Airport in Stockholm and Kastrup Airport in Copenhagen.

In the same perspective of concretizing its ambitious action plan 2023-2026 “Light in action”, Marrakech will also be connected to Sweden and Denmark. Indeed, the ONMT has sealed a partnership with the low-cost company Norwegian Air Shuttle which will serve the ocher city from Copenhagen and Stockholm. Through these two partnerships, the ONMT thus intends to strengthen its presence on the Scandinavian market, especially since this market, provider of more than 30 million tourists, is one of the most lucrative, generating tens of billions of euros annually.
