From Saturday May 6 to Sunday May 28, 2023 at midnight, the bulk sale of fuel is prohibited throughout the Dakar region for security reasons, according to an order issued by the Governor of Dakar.

This prohibition applies specifically to the sale of fuel in containers other than the tanks of vehicles or mopeds. The Governor of Dakar also warned that anyone violating this decree will be liable to the sanctions and penalties provided for by the laws and regulations in force.

The authority however underlined that “by way of derogation (…) the sale of fuel in containers specially provided for this purpose, to persons whose professional activities justify it, may be granted by the prefects of the department”.

The text specifies that the Prefects of the departments of Dakar Guédiawaye Keur Massar, Pikine and Rufisque, the Central Commissioner of Dakar, the head of the Regional Service of Public Security, and the Commander of the Gendarmerie Legion of Dakar are responsible for ensuring the execution of this measure.
