Since this incident, the origin of the problem has been identified and corrected on all the vehicles concerned. Production and deliveries were able to restart.

The Dearborn Police Department, near Detroit, Michigan, recently released never-before-seen footage of the fire that destroyed several Ford F-150 Lightnings, prompting the recall of 18 units and the halting of production and deliveries. This footage was released on CNBC, revealing the damage caused by the fire that took place in the parking lot for new Ford vehicles in Dearborn.

Ford’s investigation in conjunction with battery supplier SK On uncovered a manufacturing defect in the battery cellsleading to their replacement on affected vehicles.

However, Ford has reassured F-150 Lightning owners that there are no reports of crashes or injuries related to the recall.. The manufacturer also announced that production had resumed on March 13, 2023, following almost a month of interruption.

This recall was handled responsively by Ford, which quickly identified battery cell manufacturing issues and implemented corrective actions. The manufacturer has also taken the decision to replace the original batteries on the 18 recalled pick-ups, thus avoiding any potential risk for the owners of these vehicles.

Ford has also assured that it does not believe that other F-150 Lightning have been affected by this manufacturing defect in the battery cells, thus reassuring customers and future buyers of the electric pickup.
