Following the terrible floods in mid-July 2021, finding housing for the victims was an emergency. For 13 months, families invested in land belonging to the Magotteaux company, located in Vaux-sous-Chèvremont. Indeed, nearly 80 people have lived there in 30 modular units installed in the Domaine du Chalet.
Now, the victims have left the scene and the chalets have been removed. But during the last municipal council, which was held on April 26, the restoration of the land was discussed. “The municipal council is launching a works contract to restore the land lent by Magotteaux to the Municipality of Chaudfontaine to its original state following the floods in 2021. The land has been developed to accommodate and house disaster victims in the “Domaine du Chalet”. Today, these people have left the land and their facilities have been dismantled and evacuated, ”indicates the municipal administration.
Many families had invested in the premises and, to make their stay as pleasant as possible, the municipality had made various arrangements. “We had redone the relief of the land to make it more suitable for housing accommodation. We had also brought new soil to the scene because it had a lot of stones and gravel.
Then we made connections so that the residents had water and electricity. It is now all this that we must withdraw. We are also going to bring new land to the field and rework the relief, ”explains Daniel Bacquelaine, the Calidifontaine mayor.
In terms of financing this project, the municipality will not have to incur any costs because the housing and facilities had been financed by the Walloon Region and this subsidy also covers the work to restore the land.
