Lisbon, Portugal.

From Lisbon, Portugal, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Irene Velez, confirmed that the government is considering applying a differential rate for gasoline prices, which in Colombia have increased by more than 2,600 pesos in the last year.

Vélez assured that in the National Development Plan, the way in which the formula that evaluates the cost of the gallon is constructed will also be evaluated.

“It does not make total sense that 100% of gasoline is priced at international prices, we are going to review that in the methodology, what we want to differentiate is the issue of targeting for all consumers, not just Toyotas, the most worrying thing What we have found is what we call large consumers”.

The minister assured that the government even found “ships that arrive in the country to tank and lock up with subsidized gasoline, with subsidized diesel, so it doesn’t make sense.”

The task is advancing and the minister confirmed that there are already technical roundtables between the ministries of Finance, Mines and Ecopetrol.

“It does not make sense that the country is putting its resources, that it might be investing in other purposes. We are going to do a comprehensive and complete review, and we start.

According to the Minister, the rates might be differential, for example, for motorcycles: “hopefully they might have a special price, and a third price for gasoline would be built, that is, extra, current and another”.
