Max Verstappen pulled off a superb comeback at the Miami Grand Prix to win ahead of teammate Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso. The Dutchman is only the 5th driver in history to win by being 9th on the starting grid.

Verstappen did not make a fabulous start by not regaining any place, yet it only took him 15 laps to return to 2nd position behind Perez.

The Mexican, who did not take advantage of his pole position to escape, with a gap that never exceeded 3 seconds on his first pursuer, had to bow to Verstappen’s profitable strategy.

While Perez started with medium tyres, the Dutchman started with hard tires which held up remarkably well. He did not enter the pits until the 45th lap while having managed to widen and then maintain a gap of 18 seconds with his teammate.

Thus, he came out less than a second behind the latter and with fresh mediums once morest Perez’s toughs, he only needed 3 laps to overtake his teammate and finally escape to victory.

In the standings, the reigning double world champion is doing a good job with this victory since he is closing a little gap with his runner-up Sergio Perez. While he only had a 6-point lead before this Grand Prix, the Dutchman now has fourteen.
