DJELFA – Specialists in the field of renewable energies and applied automation affirmed, during the work of an international conference hosted on Sunday by the “Ziane Achour” University of Djelfa, that Algeria had assets allowing it to bet on a “fluid” transition towards the exploitation of renewable energies.
The experts assured on the second day of this 1st conference which is held under the theme “renewable solutions for ecological systems … towards a sustainable transition”, that Algeria has assets and capacities allowing it to bet in force on a “smooth” transition to renewable energies, and to modernize the theoretical and practical systems and mechanisms.
In this context, Professor Saad Mkhilef from the Australian University of Technology “Swin Burn” indicated in his intervention on “the need for energy storage”, that the energy transition, a topical issue in all countries of the world, should materialize in Algeria in a “fluid” way given the natural assets which make the wealth of the country, at the head of which its large surface area and the diversity of its climate.
“The exploitation of these natural assets should be accompanied by a strategy for the use of local technology, particularly in terms of the manufacture of batteries and the various components used in energy production”, added this academic from of Algerian origin and a graduate of the University of Sétif, which has numerous research and scientific articles to its credit.
For his part, the Palestinian researcher Haitam Abou Erroub, professor at the American University of Texas in Qatar, and director of the smart grid research center, affirmed that “the future of renewable energies is promising for Algeria due to of the existence of many natural data which establishes it as a privileged supplier in terms of clean energies, and allows it to cover local or even external demand”.
On the sidelines of the work of this conference, which saw the participation of 14 researchers from foreign universities and several experts representing Algerian universities, the director of studies at the General Directorate for Scientific Research and Technological Development (DGRSDT) at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Aissa Mfedjagh, told APS that the issue of energy transition was “of great importance in the process of implementing priority programs of national policy”.
“The question of energy security has been decided on the theoretical level since 2011, in the sense that a program has been drawn up to carry out the energy transition, which was modified in 2015 and enriched in 2020”, he added. added, mentioning, in this respect, “60 research projects carried out within the framework of the national program”.
Mr. Mfedjagh noted the importance of combining the efforts of all sectors to achieve the energy transition program.
For his part, the dean of the faculty of science and technology at the University of Ziane Achour, Pr. Ahmed Hafifa stressed that the exploitation of renewable energies on which Algeria was betting intervened to get in tune with the global challenges in this area and work towards achieving its energy security.
