– YB Master Party with Lo & Leduc and Root 5
On Sunday followingnoon, the YB master parade created a lot of atmosphere in downtown Bern. Until the rain started. We report live.
It’s still raining. So what? These three women don’t let the party mood spoil.

For Raphael Wicky, there are incredible emotions: “I will never forget the parade through Bern’s old town,” said the master trainer.
While the team steps onto the stage in the stadium, the bass booms. The players applaud the fans. The players, in turn, celebrate by holding up their scarves and calling out to their stars.
Christian Fassnacht says: “It’s unbelievable that so many people are here. That shows how connected the club is to the city.” Big cheers and Laola waves for the team. Nobody wants to let the weather ruin their party. “Just enjoy it,” say several players.
The Swiss dialect musician Oli Kehrli is currently playing in the Wankdorf Stadium. Later on there will also be… Root 5 and Lo and Leduc. “Hie ghöri häre, hie isch mis Deheimä!”
The “Toten Hosen” sound from the loudspeakers. They sing (unfortunately appropriately) of the end that is not in sight – like when it rains. Most of the people in the stadium stand in the covered part. A small part is in front of the stage, but the big part is near the seats.
Children run around the empty stadium, you wait for the party to start once more, smoke a cigarette, drink a beer, eat a bratwurst. At the moment there are only a few thousand who are also hungry for the team and the concerts.
It rained at the championship celebration. Here you can see who is the true and who is the fashionista.
Many leave the move to the stadium. Will they go to the stadium later? Some are still undecided, others decide to change their clothes in order to set off dry and well-equipped. The Bernese do not want to spoil the celebration.
Because of the pouring rain, the parade is moving faster now. Many have sought shelter. At the Coop Schönburg, an estimated 50 to 60 people are waiting for the rain to stop.
In the rose garden, fans not only have to contend with the onset of rain, but also with the smoke caused by the pyros – and which the wind is now carrying up the slope.
The train comes to a standstill just before the Nydegg Bridge. The hardcore fans make way for the truck and mood for the players. It’s still raining lightly. But many fans have a rain jacket or an umbrella with them, the rest don’t care. The Justice Alley is so shrouded in smoke that the truck can hardly be seen. It is estimated that several thousand people will take part in the parade.
The hard core leads the fan march through the old town of Bern. The classics like «Fuessbau-Schwizer-Meister, BSC» are chanted. Pyros and smoke petards sometimes cloud spirit and alley, but shortly followingwards the party bus also drives through Kramgasse. People dance to 80’s party music blasting from the truck. The team is now wearing black umbrellas – with the YB logo, of course. After all, the arbours keep the fans dry.
Züri-West sounds on the Bundesplatz and Pyros in the old town streets: The parade started shortly before 3 p.m.
“Here I am at home” booms from the loudspeakers. The YB master entourage starts moving towards the stadium. Nsame, Itten, Fasnacht and Co. throw YB merch at the crowd, which is well received. Meanwhile, the DJ’s Züri West join in: “Somehow happiness started there”.
The YB master bus drove up in front of the Federal Palace. Immediately people crowded in front of the barrier. The first players get out, the crowd cheers. They wear the championship shirts and a YB scarf. The players themselves carry the beer they will be drinking onto the platform of the truck. Around a thousand people have now gathered. The weather is changeable, so the black and yellow fans can only hope that the championship celebration will not be rained on.
Viktor used to be a fan behind the goal in the old Wankdorf Stadium. Later he and his wife Rahel put a “Schemeli” in front of their son in Neufeld so that he might see better. On the 25th wedding anniversary of the two, YB became champion for the first time in 32 years. It was nice this time too, but no one ran onto the pitch.
Compared to 2018, the application is visibly less thick. There is no stage on the Bundesplatz, but there are two trucks in front of the Bundeshaus backdrop, where the football heroes should gather. Despite the clouds, the warm weather has already attracted several hundred people – and there are likely to be even more by the time the event officially begins at 3 p.m. The atmosphere is peaceful, the sparks should only fly as soon as the main characters – the players – show up.
Meanwhile, the police are reminding of the expected high volume of traffic:
The family of Luca, Andrea and their son Fabio has been a YB fan for around 35 years. The winning feeling is no longer comparable to 2018, says Luca. However, he was still euphoric: After all, it didn’t work out last year. “Now let’s enjoy the party.” In addition, you are present at the cup handover at home once morest Wintherthur. Son Fabio, who took a YB flag with him, is also happy: “YB makes me happy”.
At the last YB championship title two years ago, the championship celebration was a rather dreary affair for the fans due to Corona: Most celebrated at home, in the car or on the balcony.
Today, however, a big break is to take place once more. The fans will gather on the Bundesplatz, from where the parade will start at 3 p.m. via the old town to the stadium. The top is expected at 5 p.m. in Wankdorf.
There is an increased risk of traffic delays in the Guisanplatz area, since the BEA is coming to an end at the same time. Tram line 9 will temporarily stop operating while the parade is marching past.
There will be two differences compared to the championship celebrations in 2018: As in 2019, there will be no stage set up on the Bundesplatz. And the YB players won’t be able to lift a trophy. Because this will not be given to the YB captain until May 29th on the occasion of the last game of the season – at home once morest Winterthur.
The championship celebration continues following 5 p.m. in the stadium with player presentations and concerts. YB will only announce the names of the bands in the stadium. (trick/spoon)
