Growing solar in the face of the crisis
Since 2018, solar has experienced considerable growth in France, in response to the economic and energy crises. The number of installations has increased considerably, as evidenced by Enedis figures covering the first quarter of 2023, where France has 277,000 homes equipped with individual photovoltaic self-consumption, an increase of more than 150% since 2021.
Substantial savings for households
For households that invest in photovoltaic self-consumption, the gains on the electricity bill are substantial, as Mr. Marques can testify. Owner of a pavilion in Île-de-France, he invested in 9 solar panels for a total cost of more than 8000 euros. A year later, his electricity bill has dropped by 40%, from 1,500 to 900 euros, and he expects a full return on his investment in 10 years. In addition, the surplus electricity it produces is bought back by EDF, which translates into additional income for it.
Considerable potential for solar self-consumption
The market figures are also promising, with 4 million French households which might consume themselves by 2030 according to Xavier Piechaczyk, President of the Electricity Transport Network (RTE). Effy thus presents the “ideal solar house”, which makes it possible to maximize the gains linked to photovoltaic self-consumption. Faced with inflation in the price of equipment, the investment premium paid by EDF OA covers an average of 17% of the cost of the works. Finally, the solar kWh rate is 9 cents, i.e. twice lower than the grid electricity rate in February 2022.
