The four cities, supported by Genève Aéroport, contest the establishment of “a two-speed rail network”. They fear a “loss of attractiveness” of the connection and “a transfer of users to the road”. The signatories call for “reviewing this decision” and asking the SBB, the Federal Office of Transport and the cantons to “propose viable alternatives within a reasonable timeframe”.

Ensuring that they are aware of the difficulty of setting up a new timetable taking into account the various ongoing projects, the signatories ask for “the opening of a round table to discuss sustainable solutions for all”.

The CFF and the Transport Conference of Western Switzerland (CTSO) announced on Friday that they had agreed on an overhaul of the CFF timetable from 2025 in French-speaking Switzerland. The operation aims to improve punctuality and allow the completion of infrastructure renewal works.

This new schedule will come into effect on December 15, 2024. Several major changes are announced. In particular, it is planned to extend the journey times of most lines and to make Renens a station for connections between main line trains.

Among other changes, the rate between the Jura Arc and Geneva will be doubled, but travelers will have to change at Renens, with the exception of a few direct connections maintained during peak hours. Today, when traveling between Neuchâtel and Geneva, there is an hourly connection without change in 1h09 and another, with a change in Lausanne, in 1h36.
