Global networking of ombudspersons essential for strengthening human rights
Vienna (OTS) – From 07.-12. On May 19, Ombudsperson Gaby Schwarz, who is also General Secretary of the IOI, will receive ombudspersons from all parts of the world. “This board meeting is an essential part of successful cooperation between ombuds organizations worldwide. Personalities from all over the world meet here who work every day to strengthen the rights of citizens, for human rights and democracy,” says Ombudswoman Schwarz.
The International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), an international association of independent administrative control bodies with members from all parts of the world, has had its seat in the Ombudsman Board since 2009.
In addition to an extensive program in which, among other things, decisions are made regarding new memberships and the allocation of subsidies to promote regional projects from funds from membership fees, current topics are also on the agenda. Such as the difficulties faced by ombudspersons who come under pressure in their country because of their work.
“Networking, exchange, as well as funding and training for ombudsman institutions around the world, are an important factor in strengthening human rights internationally. I am therefore very happy to be able to host this meeting in Vienna,” explains Ombudswoman Schwarz.
