Fisherman isolated in swollen river in Mungyeong, subsidence around roads in Yeongju
(Daegu = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Seon-hyeong = Reports of damage due to strong winds continue as the torrential rains in Daegu and Gyeongbuk have subsided.
According to the Gyeongbuk Provincial Fire Headquarters on the 6th, a total of 23 reports of heavy rain and strong winds entered the situation room from 5:00 pm the previous day to 3:00 pm the same day.
Among them, 18 reports of damage from strong winds were the most common, saying that additional measures were needed due to fallen construction materials or trees or fluttering banners.
At 4:57 am, a 30m-long embankment collapsed in Guguri, Dansan-myeon, Yeongju-si, and hit a house, forcing six residents to evacuate to a nearby village hall.
The fire authorities who shut off the gas valve in the house conducted a safety check with KEPCO.
At around 8:33 a.m., a report was received that vehicles might not move due to the influx of earth and sand on the road in Seungburi, Seokpo-myeon, Bonghwa-gun, and an excavator was mobilized.
Prior to this, at 7:16 a.m., a report was received in Punggak-myeon, Cheongdo-gun, that the sewer flowed back and the roads around the area were flooded.
Around 8:13 am, a report came in that the ground had subsided around the road where waterworks were being built in Gaheung-dong, Yeongju-si, and the dispatch team took safety measures.
In Beomeo-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu, a tree fell on the road and hit a car.
The two people in the car suffered no injuries, but showed symptoms of surprise and were taken to a nearby hospital, fire officials said.
On that day, 17 safety-related reports were received in Daegu, such as signs and windows in danger of falling due to strong winds, and drains of multi-family houses and commercial buildings being blocked.
As of 4:40 pm on this day, the cumulative precipitation was Bonghwa Seokpo 146.5mm, Gyeongsan 94.5mm, Goryeong 141mm, Mungyeong 107.2mm, Yeongju 111.6mm, Ulleung Cheonbu 145mm, Ulleung Dokdo 51.5mm, Cheongdo 121.5mm, Sangju Euncheok 127.5mm, Daegu Dalseong 116 mm, Buk-gu 102.5 mm, Seo-gu 103 mm, Daegu (official counting standard) 78.1 mm.
On the other hand, the maximum daily precipitation in May in the Gyeongbuk region, as compiled by the Daegu Meteorological Administration, was 140.5 mm on May 6, 2006, measured by ground weather observation equipment in Ulleungdo (Government Office), and 111.5 mm in Daegu on May 30, 2003.
