Swisscom is holding up well in the market, as illustrated by its position in mobile, for example. During the 1is quarter of 2023, it gained 0.4% of SIM on mobile to 6.177 million subscribers. If the situation is more tense on TV, the financial results are correct.
The group’s turnover remained almost unchanged, at 2.747 billion (-0.3%), an increase of 0.6% at constant exchange rates. In the main business in Switzerland, turnover fell slightly by 12 million (-0.6%) to 2.044 billion francs. All the details.
Correct finances
The turnover of telecommunications services decreased overall by 1.2%, to 1.348 billion. In contrast, revenue from IT services for business customers rose slightly by 0.7% to 291 million francs, according to a press release.
Consolidated operating income before depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increased by 2.4% to 1.164 billion. At constant exchange rates, it increased by 3.0%. EBITDA increased by 1.4% in the core business in Switzerland and by 1.6% at Fastweb in Italy (in EUR). Compared to the previous year, net profit fell by -1.1% to 442 million francs.
Retreat on digital TV
As with various market players, the number of broadband connections on the Swisscom fixed network fell by 0.6% compared to last year, to 2.02 million. As for digital television, the former monopolist fell 1.8% to 1.56 million subscribers.
The number of subscriptions on account in mobile communications increased by 161,000 units over 12 months, while the number of prepaid connections fell by 135,000 SIMs. Overall, the number of Swisscom mobile connections increased by 0.4% to 6.18 million. Finally, at the end of March 2023, Swisscom covered more than 75% of the Swiss population with 5G+.
