Infrabel reported this Friday at the end of the day that “an accident of people” at Zaventem station (not at Brussels airport but at the station located on the Brussels-Louvain railway line) disrupted traffic railway between Brussels-North and Louvain on the four tracks and in both directions since 4.25 p.m.

According to information from HLN, a fight between two groups of young people, which started on Karel Quitman Square, then continued on the platforms of the Flemish station, where it degenerated. Following this, two of them would have found themselves on the tracks, while an ICE train passed through the station. One of the young people did not survive, another is seriously injured and his life is in danger. According to our colleagues, they would be students from a nearby secondary school, aged 14 and 16.

Trains are diverted locally, via the airport and the Prinsenhoek junction. Although the train service has been adapted, the evening rush hour will be severely disrupted, warns the manager.

The police and the public prosecutor’s office in Hal-Vilvoorde have opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. They do not wish to comment on the matter at this stage.
