Last Thursday, April 27, it was around 10:30 a.m. when two police officers from the local area of Charleroi were arrested by a homeless man. The two inspectors, on a moped, were in the rue du Fort, in the upper town a few steps from the hypercentre.
The homeless person tells them that a lady is giving birth in a vacant lot, a little further. “Once there, they find that no one has called the emergency services, which they do immediately,” said the police in a communication on social networks. “They reassure the lady as best they can, while waiting for the arrival of 112.”
The emergency doctor dispatched to the scene to help later informed them that without their intervention, the little girl would have died within minutes of her birth: she was wrapped in the umbilical cord (a double circular cord, Editor’s note), which might have choke him. “Little Héléna and her mother are doing well and have been taken to the hospital”, concludes the police.
