8 people were killed and 13 wounded yesterday, Thursday, in a shooting near the Serbian city of Mladenovac, regarding 60 km south of the capital, Belgrade, less than 48 hours following students were killed at a school in Belgrade in an unprecedented shooting.
And Serbian media reported that the attacker fired from inside a moving vehicle using an automatic weapon before fleeing.
The police launched a wide combing operation in search of the outlet, with the participation of nearly 600 policemen, within the elite units specialized in combating terrorism, and the police closed the road leading to two villages in the area where the shooting took place.
Ambulances rushed to the scene, and a Serbian channel reported that people worried regarding their relatives gathered outside the emergency medical center in Belgrade, where at least 8 of the wounded were taken.
Accident details
Local newspapers reported that the victims were sitting on a couch when the attacker shot them from a car, and Serbian state television said a policeman and his sister were among the dead.
The motive behind the killing is not yet known.
Serbian Interior Minister Bratislav Gasic described yesterday’s incident as a “terrorist act”.
Yesterday’s shooting comes in the wake of an accident that occurred the day before yesterday in a school in the Serbian capital, where a 13-year-old student killed 8 of his comrades and a security guard, and injured 6 other students and a teacher, in an incident that shocked the country.
The country’s President Aleksandar Vucic said on Wednesday that what happened at the school was “one of the most difficult days” in Serbia’s contemporary history.
