“More than an award, it is a certification of being the first municipality at the national level where its axes in all its projects are focused on caring for the environment,” declared the mayor of Santa Catarina Pinula.
The Municipality of Santa Catarina Pinula, in charge of the Mayor Sebastian Siero, was recognized with an international award as the best in environmental projects at the national level. In the Guatemalan Chamber of Construction the award ceremony took place “Green Route” to the mayor of the town.
According to Siero, this award is given at an international level to institutions that work on projects for the environment, this municipality being the first to be awarded at a national level.

In his speech, the official stressed that a plan was necessary to achieve an orderly and sustainable municipality and work has been done on this in recent years, protecting the local forests and with this the water recharge to have water for the following years.
Innovation in Santa Catarina Pinula
During the award ceremony, the exhibitors reiterated that the work being carried out by the Municipality of Santa Catarina Pinula with the construction of the largest treatment plant in Central America and with the innovation in transportation with electric buses, were crucial factors for the award.
The new electric buses, which run for free in Santa Catarina Pinula, do not emit polluting gases and are used with 100% electric power. The municipality is also pioneers in the use of LED public lighting with solar panels.
