Gutau/Muehlviertel (OTS) – The Dyer’s Market in Gutau has been one of the most beautiful handicraft markets in Austria for years. This year, too, the small market town of Gutau in the Mühlviertel will be a meeting place for lovers of blueprints, traditional costumes and modern textiles as well as fine handicrafts. Blue dyers from several European countries, who present their rare craft at this market and offer the UNESCO cultural heritage “blue print” for sale, as well as designers who use blue print in modern fashion creations, will be there. The varied supporting program offers visitors an exciting, entertaining stay. The well-known good landlords of Gutau, the peasantry and the Goldhauben group, take care of your physical well-being.
Am Sunday 7 May 2023 it’s time, on the market square and the surrounding streets of Gutau, the “blue print” is the focus. Almost one hundred exhibitors from five European nations will be there. With the Dyer’s Museum, the market town of Gutau has a museum that is unique in Austria and is dedicated entirely to the manufacture of blueprints. Many secrets regarding dyeing with indigo dye are revealed here. Since the middle of the 18th century, the blue print has been used primarily for the working clothes of the rural population. Today the blue print is “International UNESCO Cultural Heritage” and you can find it mainly in traditional costumes, as table linen and for home textiles Watch dyeing with indigo and experience a “blue miracle”. Opposite in the dyer’s museum you can see how the blue print was made and processed over several hundred years. At 2:30 p.m. there will be traditional costumes by master tailor Rita Netzberger from Freistadt at the fashion show on the market square and more modern blue print fashion by the designers Hani & Frida from Bad Leonfelden.The extensive supporting program for the whole family offers musical square concerts, folk dance and pub music as well as lute music and the vocal ensemble “Blauton” in the parish church. Church tours are also offered and the brave can climb the church tower of Gutau climb.
This year for the first time you can also drive “green” to this “blue event” – in cooperation with the Upper Austrian. Verkehrsverbund there will be a bus connection to the Färbermarkt in Gutau for trains that stop in Pregarten in the morning and back once more in the followingnoon. Gutau can be reached by train from Linz to Pregarten and then by bus or car via the S10 towards Prague, exit Kefermarkt.
The dyer’s market takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the entrance fee is € 3.00 once more this year.
