With the official presentation of the processors by AMD, Framework can now share more details. They use Ryzen 5 7640U and Ryzen 7 7840U processors, both of which offer improved CPU and GPU performance.
Framework has announced significant updates for its modular laptop, including the ability to choose between a 13th Gen Intel Core CPU and an AMD Ryzen processor. The manufacturer also unveiled the Laptop 16, which pushes modularity even further.
Among the Laptop 13’s improvements are a new 61 Wh battery, a matte screen, louder speakers, and official support for Fedora 38 and Ubuntu 22.04. In addition, a Cooler Master case is provided to reuse old motherboards with CPU.
AMD takes place
Framework now announces the availability for pre-order of its modular laptop, the Framework Laptop, equipped with AMD processors. Customers can now choose between two processor options: the Ryzen 5 7640U and the Ryzen 7 7840U. The former offers six cores and a maximum boost frequency of 4.9 GHz, while the latter has eight cores and a maximum boost frequency of 5.1 GHz.
The Laptop Framework is still offered in two formats: a self-assembly kit starting at 979 euros (without memory or expansion modules) and a product mounted with Windows preinstalled from 1,199 euros.
As a reminder, the modular design of the Framework Laptop facilitates its assembly and allows easy replacement of the motherboard to reduce electronic waste. Users can also customize the amount of RAM, SSD, screen frame color and add ports such as Ethernet, SD slot and HDMI via expansion cards.
Whether you opt for the DIY kit or the finished laptop, orders placed today shouldn’t ship until the fourth quarter of the year.
