ALGIERS- The Minister of Finance, Laaziz Faid, expressed the wish for a “more assertive involvement” of British companies in the Algerian market, during an audience he granted Wednesday to the ambassador of the United Kingdom in Algeria, Sharon Wardle, said a statement from the ministry.
During this meeting which took place at the headquarters of the ministry, the two parties reviewed the state of economic and financial relations between the two countries as well as the ways and means to consolidate them, specified the same source.
The two parties welcomed, in this respect, the cooperation actions undertaken so far, particularly in terms of technical assistance in the financial sector and agreed to intensify this cooperation in other areas of common interest, added the press release.
In this context, Mr. Faid discussed with his interlocutor the project of reforms undertaken by Algeria in order to face the challenges of economic and social development.
In this regard, he expressed “the wish for a more assertive involvement of British companies on the Algerian market, in particular, thanks to the change made recently with the promulgation of a new framework governing investment, offering more guarantees , transparency and facilities,” the ministry said.
For her part, the British ambassador hailed the efforts made by the Algerian government to improve the business climate, while emphasizing that “Algeria is considered a symbol of stability, particularly with regard to geopolitical upheavals what the world is experiencing today”.
The British ambassador also expressed “her country’s interest in injecting new dynamism into cooperation with Algeria following Brexit”, while seizing the opportunity of this audience to present “the Developing initiative Countries Trading Schemes that the United Kingdom intends to launch soon in order to increase the level of trade with developing countries, including Algeria, through preferential access to the British market”.
The two parties agreed to continue dialogue and exchanges on issues of mutual interest to achieve a win-win partnership, the same source added.
