Six practical sessions

Volunteers who decided to conduct first aid classes were carefully selected: they must be able to communicate, express their thoughts coherently, have the desire and time to do so. Those selected participated in training and gained competence in conducting first aid classes. One of them is J. Erslovienė.

“The Red Cross has a community first aid program. We are not specialists, instructors or paramedics, but we have acquired knowledge that we can share with others. After receiving special training, we now hold free first aid courses for those for whom it would be a burden to acquire paid knowledge on their own: elderly people (65+), caregivers or people with disabilities in their close environment, residents of care institutions or hostels, students, high school students, people with disabilities , volunteers of non-governmental organizations, and classes are also held in crisis centers and prisons.

Everyone should be able to provide first aid. Six practical first aid classes are conducted, in which people not only get knowledge, but also practice: perform heart massage, help a person who is choking (Heimlich maneuver), stop bleeding, check the house – whether it is in order and there is no danger of falling, learn how to lift a fallen person, learns how to recognize a stroke, how to help an epileptic or fainting person,” J. Erslovienė said.
