CHEERLEADING. It’s been almost a year since Audrey Lapolice joined the Flyers All-Starz Cheerleading in Montreal. After countless hours of driving and training, his season concluded with a world third place finish in Orlando.

A long-time member of the Trifluvien TR Cheer Cheerleading Club, Audrey headed to Montreal to practice level 7 cheerleading.

“Trois-Rivières is an excellent club and they are very good in their national and world program. I came from the Montreal side because the club offered level 7 university. I knew it was a very good club. Incidentally, the Flyers All-Starz had three first-place finishes, one second-place finish, and one third-place finish in Orlando. Overall, we ranked third in the world,” says the 22-year-old athlete straight away.

“It was a busy season. I traveled twice a week from Saint-Boniface to Montreal, from August to April. It’s a lot, but it’s my passion. I also had a colleague from Trois-Rivières with whom I might travel. »

The brand new formation of which she is a part, Karma Coed, did not disappoint with three championships and a third place in the world.

“We did three competitions this season and we had three first places. We were also invited to the Canadian Cheer Worlds Face-Off in Niagara Falls. Normally, the 14 best clubs in Canada are invited, but this year it was 11. Already to be invited there, we were really surprised, especially since it was the first year of Karma Coed. We won a fourth place anyway, with a check, ”adds the one who will obtain her bachelor’s degree in nursing sciences (in order to become a nurse clinician) in the days to come.

“I loved the experience (in Florida). It was my second appearance and with the Flyers All-Starz, it was really strict. It was very athlete fashion. We stay at the hotel and practice. We were not allowed to go in the sun or in the swimming pool. It’s one of the best experiences I’ve had in my life and I loved it even if it was still stressful as a competition. »

The native of Saint-Boniface, who already holds a nursing position in Shawinigan, does not know if she will be able to pursue her passion next season.

“I’ve been cheerleading for nine years already. Before, I did gymnastics since I was 4 years old. I had discovered cheerleading at my high school Val-Mauricie, in Shawinigan-Sud. The following year, I was already starting competitive cheerleading, she recalls. Now I fall into hesitation mode. I don’t know if I will be able to reconcile work with sport. It was more obvious being a student. There, we will work five days a week, and one weekend out of two. Competitions are always on weekends. »

“I don’t know if I will be able to travel and do evening training. A friend told me recently: Your body will tell you when the time comes to stop. Well, my body is ready to continue and I still have the same passion for my sport. On the other hand, if I have to stop, this third place at the world championships makes me feel very accomplished as an athlete. In short, Audrey the athlete wants to continue, but Audrey the nurse will have to take responsibility (laughs)”, she concludes.
