Russia assured this Wednesday that he demolished two ukrainian drones directed once morest the Kremlin and denounced an assassination attempt on the president Vladimir Putin, a few days before the celebration of a military parade.

“Last night, the Kiev regime tried to hit the Kremlin (…) with two drones aimed at the Kremlin” that were disabled “thanks to the use of electronic warfare radar systems”, said the Russian presidency, in a statement.

“We consider these actions as an attempted terrorist act and an attempt on the life of the president,” the Kremlin added, noting that the Russian leader was not injured.

A video posted by some Russian media outlets on social media shows a plume of smoke over the Kremlin at night. It was not immediately possible to verify those images with independent sources. According to the Russian presidency, “there are no victims and no damage caused by the falling and dispersing of fragments” of the drones over the Kremlin.

While drones have crashed in the Moscow region in recent months, this is the first time that a raid attributed to Ukraine has occurred in the heart of the Russian capital, located some 500 km from the Ukrainian border.

The attempted attack denounced by the Kremlin comes just days before “Victory Day” celebrations on May 9, when Russia marks with great pomp the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945. The Kremlin said the parade of the May 9 in Moscow will be held as planned, despite the attack.

“The parade will take place. There are no changes to the program,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitri Peskov was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies. The mayor of Moscow announced a ban on drone flights over the Russian capital.
