The first telephoto macro lens in the OM SYSTEM high-spec lens “M.ZUIKO PRO” series has been released. I tried the “M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO”, which has a high shooting magnification equivalent to 4x in 35mm format.
Long-awaited telephoto macro lens for Micro Four Thirds
Surprisingly, telephoto macro lenses did not exist in the Micro Four Thirds lens group. This 90mm macro appeared to fill that gap. With a focal length of 180mm in full-frame equivalent and a maximum magnification of 4x, it is effective for insects that are difficult to get close to. In addition, the strong compression effect and large bokeh effect can be obtained, so it is also good for shooting still life such as flowers.
Petals close up with shallow depth of field
A photograph of a tulip flower at almost life-size. I have the impression that the rendering in the macro range is quite soft. Even with Micro Four Thirds, the depth of field is as thin as paper, but you can shoot sharply with the focus stacking function.
You can also enjoy telephoto snaps that take advantage of the compression effect.
While it gives a sense of detail in the normal shooting range, it is sharper and has higher contrast than close-up shots. The AF tracking and bokeh are good, so it’s an ant to carry instead of a telephoto zoom.
One that brings you close to ultra-macro up to 4x
The first thing I thought when I picked it up was that it was very slim. That might make it look longer, but it’s actually only 136mm. The weight is also light at 453g, and the balance when wearing is also good. When you look through the viewfinder, you can see that the lens + camera shake correction of up to 7 steps is strongly effective. Thanks to this, I was able to frame comfortably even when shooting at 1:1 or higher. It is a lens that makes close-ups beyond the naked eye fun.
Quick focusing by switching shooting distances
With the switch on the side, the shooting distance can be switched in three steps: infinity to 0.25m (1x), 0.5 to 0.25m (0.25x to 1x), and 0.5 to 0.224m (0.25x to 2x). The lens groups involved in focusing are also linked, enabling quick AF.
