It is a high-rise submarine cable production tower with a height of 172m and the size of a 63-story apartment building.
This is the 4th subsea facility completed by LS Cable & System in Donghae, Gangwon-do.
The total floor area of the 4 subsea buildings is 34,816 square meters.
It is the largest high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cable production plant in Asia as well as in Korea.
Only 190 billion won was invested. Construction began in July 2021 and took regarding two years to complete.
LS Cable & System completed the construction of Korea’s first submarine cable production plant in Donghae in 2009, and has built four production facilities by this year to enhance its submarine cable competitiveness.
With the new construction of the 4 subsea buildings, LS Cable & System’s submarine cable production capacity is expected to increase by 1.5 times compared to the previous one.

“Today’s completion of the 4 subsea factories specialized in HVDC will be an accelerator for growth that allows LS Cable & System to soar higher while drawing a greater tomorrow in the era of energy transition and the rising trend of the electric power industry.”
LS Cable & System built a submarine cable plant in 2009 and has invested approximately KRW 700 billion to strengthen its submarine cable capabilities.
Recently, we are solidifying our position in the submarine cable market by acquiring shares in KT Submarine, a construction company specializing in submarine cables.
Ultra-high voltage direct current transmission submarine cables can transmit large amounts of current over long distances.
Recently, as the introduction of new and renewable energy such as offshore wind power is increasing, the demand for submarine cables is also increasing.
Bon-kyu Koo, CEO of LS Cable & System, also announced that he would work hard to build a new and renewable energy power grid.
