Lampard horror continues

Chelsea legend: how good was Frank Lampard?

Chelsea are reeling under coach Frank Lampard more and more precariously. At Arsenal, the former Blues icon conceded his sixth defeat in his sixth competitive game. Arsenal regain the top of the table.

For Frank Lampard, the comeback in the managerial chair at Chelsea is becoming more and more of a nightmare.

The former Chelsea idol also suffered a defeat in his sixth competitive game as Blues coach. – this time there was a 3-1 defeat at Arsenal.

Adding his time at Everton, Lampard has now lost every one of his last ten games. He is the first manager since 1988 (Arthur Cox with Derby County) to suffer ten consecutive losses in a single season.

The eleven from Stamford Bridge conceded six defeats in six competitive games for the last time in distant 1993. This time the bankruptcy in the derby at Arsenal was already apparent following 45 minutes.

Odegaard’s brace puts Arsenal on track

Martin Odegaard opened the scoring with a brace (18′, 31′), Gabriel Jesus made it 3-0 just three minutes later (34′).

For only the second time in a London Premier League derby, Chelsea were three goals down at half-time. In the 65th minute, Noni Madueke at least made sure that the result was cosmetic.

Initially without Kai Havertz, but with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the starting XI, the desolate Blues were lost from the start – and had to endure abusive chants from their own fans.

Aubameyang had a meager nine touches before he was substituted – four of which came from dead balls.

While Chelsea have now plummeted to 12th place, Arsenal took back the top spot from Manchester City – but in two games more than the title rival.
