It’s a decision not really surprising when you know the scenario of the 2023 Playoffs. The Grizzlies were eliminated in the first round of the Playoffs once morest the Lakers, series in which Dillon Brooks talked too much for lack of playing well. He created as many distractions as he sent bricks, so obviously the calculations are not good. For a Memphis team that needs to cool down a bit when it comes to trashtalking, extending a hothead like Dillon wasn’t exactly the right plan.

Having spent all of his first six NBA seasons in Memphis, Brooks was part of the rise of the Grizzlies and the formation of the Memphis DNA, a young team that is not afraid of anyone and does not hesitate to let it know. His defensive qualities and his big mouth have long been appreciated in Tennessee, but obviously it’s time to turn the pagefor the team as well as for the player.
Despite this fishtail end to the Grizzlies, his profile should nevertheless be of interest to franchises in the Free Agency market.
