Alister McRae will be racing next month in his brother Colin’s legendary Subaru Impreza.
Alister McRae will soon take the wheel of an emblematic car, with an even stronger sentimental value for him. He will start the new Mythical Cars Rally with the Subaru Impreza made legendary by his brother Colin McRae.
The little brother of the 1995 World Champion, who died in a helicopter accident a little over 15 years ago, joins an enticing field on this historic event organized in the north of Italy, in Varzi, from 24 to 27 next May. The event will celebrate Group A cars, spanning from 1994 through to the WRC era which ended in 2021 to make way for Rally1 hybrid regulations.
Alister McRae will drive a Subaru Impreza in the same specification that took his brother to the world title 28 years ago. Now 52, he has taken the helm before, despite spending most of his WRC career in Hyundai and Mitsubishi colors in the late 1990s and early 2000s. .

“When you see or hear one of these cars, it’s impossible not to smile”he rejoices. “Naturally, the 555 [en référence à la livrée] is very dear to the hearts of the McRae family. My brother Colin did well with it! I rode a Subaru Legacy RS for the Prodrive team in 1993, but I only raced a few events with the Impreza Group A. The last time I rode one, I gave up so that I was leading the Azores Rallye; a driveshaft had broken. Hopefully we’ll have better luck this time.”

On the Mythical Cars Rally, Alister McRae will meet the double World Champion Marcus Grönholmhim too advertised driving a Subaru Impreza but in its more modern 2008 version. A week earlier, Max McRaeson of Alister and nephew of Colin, will have launched his season in the European Rally Championship in Poland. After earning his spurs in Australiathe young driver, just 18 years old, is making his debut on the Old Continent this year.
