In a joint statement released this Monday, during the central act of the 1st of May – International Workers’ Day, which took place in Uíge, the National Union of Angolan Workers (UNTA), the General Central of Independent and Free Trade Unions of Angola (CG -SILA) and Força Sindical (FS) defended the revision of the national minimum wage.
According to the statement, the current minimum wage of Kz 32,181.15, “does not support the basic needs of public and private employees”.
Another request made by the three union forces is the reduction of the Labor Income Tax (IRT). According to the unionists, the IRT “contributes to the reduction of the purchasing power of families”.
The union forces also defended the “debureaucratization of the processes of recognition of union associations, aiming at strengthening the protection of workers’ rights”.
