Caution is advised if you are taking anti-inflammatories. On April 27, the National Medicines Safety Agency issued an alert on taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) cautioned patients regarding the use of anti-inflammatories.
“Several cases of infectious complications with sometimes fatal outcome in adults and children who took nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), on prescription or self-medication, were reported to us in March 2023 by regional pharmacovigilance centers (CRPV ). These complications can occur even in the event of co-prescription of antibiotics”, warns the ANSM.
Complications
The Health Agency explains that ibuprofen and ketoprofen can mask symptoms such as fever or pain and therefore lead to a delay in diagnosis and patient management. In case of infection, this can lead to certain complications. “This is why we remind you that in a context of pain and / or fever, especially in the event of a common infection such as angina, a dental infection or a cough, it is advisable to favor the use of paracetamol”, recommends the ‘ANSM.
Caution in children
In addition, it is advisable to stop the treatment of NSAIDs when symptoms disappear, not to combine them and to avoid them in case of chickenpox. If necessary, they should be prescribed at the lowest possible dose and for the shortest possible duration (3 days if fever, 5 days if pain).
Concerning children, if the temperature does not exceed 38.5° C, it is not necessary to give him medicine once morest fever. “Simple gestures can relieve him, before considering the administration of a drug once morest the fever: take off layers of clothing, without undressing him completely; install him in a cool and ventilated room (between 18 and 20 °C) Give it often to drink fresh water, even if he does not ask you”, recalls the ANSM.
