Vienna Pride 1.-18. Juni – Motto: Together we rise

Vienna (OTS) Vienna Pride is in the starting blocks! Under the motto “Together we rise”, the diversity and visibility of LGBTIQ people will be celebrated from June 1st to 18th, 2023. After the disruptive actions once morest a children’s book reading and those last year, the joint effort once morest hatred and right-wing extremism is a special concern of the event series. At a joint press conference, Deputy Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr, SPÖ municipal councilor Marina Hanke, Katharina Kacerovsky-Strobl, the organizer of Vienna Pride and managing director of Stonewall GmbH and Ann-Sophie Otte, the chairperson of HOSI Vienna, gave an insight into the highlights in June.

Vice Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr: “We are all united by the common goal of making the community visible to the public. I am therefore particularly pleased that we can make Pride even broader and more diverse together and bring it to Vienna City Hall. Because Vienna is and will remain the rainbow capital.”

Vienna Pride and Rainbow Parade as a signal for LGBTIQ young people once morest prejudice and hatred

As every year, the highlight itself will be the rainbow parade, which starts on Saturday, June 17 at 1:00 p.m. in front of the town hall square. As was the case last time, it will circle once in the opposite direction to the ring road. The rainbow parade is organized 100% on a voluntary basis by HOSI Vienna and is the largest demonstration in Austria. Its chairman Ann-Sophie Otte says: “Anyone who thinks they can intimidate the LGBTIQ community should think once more very carefully. Our community has been demonstrating since we were still under threat of prosecution – and we will continue to stand up for our rights and our place in society until finally no young person has to fear coming out and a dignified living is possible for everyone in our community.”

Vienna Pride organizer Katharina Kacerovsky-Strobl adds: “The attacks on drag culture are only a small part of the agitation that is becoming more and more radical once morest our community. But once more and once more we see how incredibly strong we are and all those who want a fair and diverse society and a good life for everyone. This is exactly what the motto of this year’s Vienna Pride is all regarding: Together we rise! Because together nobody can stop us. By working together with the community and all of our cooperation partners, we are once once more ensuring broad visibility this year, and we want to further reduce fears and prejudices.”

It should not be forgotten that Vienna Pride is a community event that would not be possible without the support of cooperation partners, the organization team and several hundred volunteers. “We would like to thank all those who support us and invest their time and commitment in this important event,” says Kacerovsky-Strobl.

City of Vienna and HOSI Vienna bring Pride to City Hall

The City of Vienna and HOSI Vienna are bringing the Pride to the City Hall and have worked out a joint solution for the Pride Village: broad, open and diverse! Together, the Pride Village was rethought for this year, starting and ending with a community village.

The community can network and exchange ideas in numerous activities: The Community Village will start with the Pride Run on June 3rd. In addition, the city of Vienna opens on 15.6. the Vienna City Hall and invites you to the Pride reception in the Arkadenhof. In this way we enable networking and exchange on many levels. As a further additional offer on 16.6. the Pride conference took place in the Vienna City Hall. The series will end on June 17th. with a Community Village and the Pride Celebration on the day of the Rainbow Parade at Vienna’s Rathausplatz.

“Vienna Pride means sending a strong signal of visibility and solidarity, especially in times when attacks on the LGBTIQ community are increasing. Vienna is an open, diverse, lively city in which we want a good life for everyone. That’s why let’s fight once morest discrimination and for real equality side by side with the LGBTIQ community!”, says Marina Hanke, Member of the Vienna City Council and Chairwoman of the SPÖ Vienna Women, who thanks the organizers for their work.

Dozens of events let the whole of Vienna shine colorfully

As in previous years, several dozen side events will be held across the city together with our cooperation partners such as Magenta, Milka, Nivea, NYX. So this year the Pride Run Vienna will take place once more, with the Prater on June 3rd. for the rights and visibility of LGBTIQ people, the Vienna Pride Pool Day in the Schönbrunner Schlossbad, the Vienna Pride Beach Day in the VCBC, the Vienna Pride Drag Beach in the Strandbar Herrmann, the Vienna Pride Cinema Night in the cinema on the roof, DJ Cocktails in the 25Hours Hotel and Melía Hotel, the Vienna Pride Wedding Day in SO/ Vienna, where people get married, the Mister Vienna Pride election, a number of city and museum tours such as in the Mumok, some brunches in the community bars and the Official After Pride Parties in the Pratersauna, the garish trout, the O-Klub or the Praterstrasse Club and much more.

There are also numerous other measures taken by the City of Vienna to make the community visible to the public. In addition to the queer small projects pot, this year for the second time there is the newly established support call “Vienna Rainbow Month June”, which promotes events in the rainbow month. There will also be countless events in the course of Vienna Pride. The projects from the funding call “Promote Queer Diversity 2022-2023” are still ongoing, in which there is a clear educational, as well as trans and inter-focus. In addition, “ARCUS”, the memorial for men and women who were victims of Nazi persecution of homosexuals, will be opened in June and a queer youth center will be created.
