Last week was the week of vaccinations in Europe. Where are we in the Hautes-Pyrénées? Good or bad students? Manon Mordelet, departmental delegate of the ARS, enlightens us on the subject.
The Regional Health Agency (ARS) is relaunching an operation to encourage vaccination. All vaccinations. ARS departmental delegate, Manon Mordelet takes stock of the situation in the Hautes-Pyrénées.
This week was the European one for the promotion of vaccinations. Is it needed?
I confirm the importance of the essential vaccination policy in the public health prevention system. The European week 2022 was dynamic with 41 actions carried out and we expect a report at this height in 2023.
Concretely, what is the balance sheet in Hautes-Pyrénées?
The results of vaccination in the department are mixed for multiple reasons: impact of the COVID crisis (even if some data are previous, communication and prevention policy with professionals and the population to be strengthened, strong reduction in the medical demography which limits access to a doctor and follow-up of vaccination)…
Vaccination overview
Hexavalent vaccine (DDP, pertussis, Haemophilus influenza B and hepatitis B).
The cohort variation, in points from 2018 to 2020 (9.8 pts), is very much higher than the regional (1.5) and national (0.6) averages. But the average booster (3 doses at 21 months) is only 87.5% in the department, compared to 90.9% in Occitania and France.
The pneumococcal vaccine.
Whether at one dose (99.7%) or at 3 doses (93.2%), the Bigourdans are exemplary. With a cohort variation of 2.1 points over the 2018-2020 period, they are far ahead of the inhabitants of Occitania (0.7), not to mention the national level (0.1 point).
MMR (measles, mumps, rubella).
That’s the bad news. Parents in the Hautes-Pyrénées lag behind with 89.8% of first dose, once morest 92.3% in Occitania and 93.4% nationally. At 2 doses following 33 months (76.5%), it is far from improving (83% in Occitania and 84.9% nationally). It is not surprising that the department is systematically in the lead during epidemic alerts from Inserm.
HPV: finally good news!
We will avoid making a link between Sud-Ouest, land of partygoers, and the subject. But it must be recognized that at the opening of the major festivals in the region, we can only salute with Georges Brassens, “The butterfly hunt”. Responsible for a number of female and male cancers, the papillomavirus has long remained piously silent. Fortunately, tongues are loosened, thanks to national, regional and departmental campaigns. As such, the Hautes-Pyrénées stand out. At 15, 45.8% of young adults in the department are vaccinated, the national equivalent and more than the average for Occitania (43%). Not to mention the reminder at 16: 42.4% in Hautes-Pyrénées once morest 35.5% in Occitanie and 37.4% nationally.
Meningococcus C: much better
Should there be a link? Many families in the department have been bereaved by this disease. The department is “French champion” of vaccination once morest this pathology, with 92.3% recall (91.3% in Occitania and 91.5% nationally).
Influenza: the population at risk must stick to it
More or less, the population at risk (elderly or with comorbidity) in the Hautes-Pyrénées continues to be vaccinated. But there has been a slight downturn this year…
